THE BUZZ FROM BUDAPEST
While some people wear their heart on their sleeve, this company and its legion of fans including Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit, Juventus’ Dani Alves, Dj Tiesto and business magnate Richard Branson wear their vinyl on their face. Hungarian eyewear manufacturer Vinylize remasters music into hand-made eyewear, creating the perfect specs for music lovers and vinyl aficionados alike.
LABEL PROFILER – VINYLIZE: Sourcing its materials from unsold records from distributors as well as mispressings from studios, Vinylize recycles an average 300 kilos of vinyl a month and repurposes it to create unique luxury eyewear and accessories. While the concept seems simple enough, in execution, it’s far from it. To make their durable frames and to preserve the records’ indented tracks and distinctive grooves, founder Zachary Tipton’s highly specialized process involves taking fine cellulose acetate and fusing it with the recycled vinyl. Frames are laser-cut in their Budapest workshop and feature thick frames, modern shapes and accents, resulting in unique, individual styles.
An added bonus for well-meaning vinylphiles looking to unload some of their 12” LP’s: check out Vinylize’s exchange program and receive credit towards any of their frames!
